Every few weeks we will try to give a bit of a profile or introduction of each of the Organising Team so you can put a name to a face and know what they do.
Simon | BrumJam Jamboree Chief
Simon has been a leader with Scouting over 40 years and held a number of volunteer appointments, including Scout Leader and Assistant County Commissioner (Scouts). Currently as well as heading up BrumJam Simon is a District Commissioner and Deputy County Commissioner in Birmingham. He has been involved, organised and attended a number of Jamborees and International trips, worked alongside our friends in Girlguiding and was Deputy Chief at BrumJam 2012 heading up both the Programme Team and Sub Camps Team and Jamboree Chief in 2016. He will once again take on this role in BrumJam2020 and will lead a team of Department Chief’s and ensure we all have a safe and fun time at the camp.
Nick Fawdry | Admin Chief & Deputy Jamboree Chief
Nick Fawdry is our Deputy Jamboree Chief and has been a leader with Scouting for 22 years and held a number of volunteer appointments, including Scout Leader, Assistant County Commissioner (Scouts) and County Secretary. Currently as well as being married to Steph, having a full time job working in Oxfordshire and supporting the Organising Team for BrumJam, Nick is Assistant County Commissioner (Support) in Birmingham County. He has been involved, organised and attended a number of large scale events and supported BrumJam as a member of the Staff team for the Programme in 2012 and Deputy Jamboree Chief in 2016 . Nick is committed to supporting both the Organising Team and the Jamboree Chief helping to do the best planning possible before the event to make sure we all have a great time on camp. In addition he is the point of contact for Staff who wish to get involved and help deliver the camp. Nick’s task is to understand what Staff would like to do and then assign to the appropriate Department Chief or Team Leader. Andy | Support Team Chief
Andy has volunteered with Girlguiding for 12 years and likes to claim that he is one of few men with a Girlguiding appointment. Currently as well as being married to Clare, has a two daughters and a full time job is heading up the Support Team for BrumJam. Andy has been involved, organised and attended a number of large scale camps in the UK including Warwickshire Guides county camp called Arden which was also based at Blackwell Adventure in 2014 so knows the site well! Andy is committed to lead the Support Team who love nothing more than cleaning toilets, litter picking, cleaning toilets, collecting rubbish, cleaning toilets, filling generators, cleaning toilets, cleaning showers and err cleaning toilets. Oh and they help us all get on and off the sub camps, move equipment and food deliveries around the site and also support with the event first aid provision. The Support team are there to do exactly as it suggests which is to support the other BrumJam teams to make sure we all have a great time on camp.
Amanda Cardall | Communications and P.R Chief
Amanda has been a volunteer with Scouting for over 20 years. Currently as well as being married to Simon (our Jamboree Chief), having a full time job and supporting the Organising Team for BrumJam, Amanda is County Secretary for Birmingham County, District Secretary and a Group Secretary. Amanda has been involved, organised and attended a number of large scale events and worked alongside our friends in Girlguiding. Amanda supported BrumJam as Communication and P.R Chief in 2012 and 2016. Amanda is the first point of contact for the general information and questions. Please contact Amanda on email@example.com. By using all our favourite modern communication methods such as website, facebook, twitter and e-mail Amanda is committed to ensuring the communications and P.R is effective before the event. During the event Amanda and her team will be responsible for the camp photography and filming, the Info Centre, social media updates and the camp news letter so that we record all the fun and adventure.
Andrew Lloyd | Finance Chief
Andrew (our County Commissioner here in Birmingham) led the organisation of our first BrumJam in 2012, is a passionate supporter of the event and has taken on the role of Finance Chief for 2020.
Andrew has been a leader for over 25 years, most recently taking on roles as ADC Scouts, Deputy County Commissioner, District Commissioner, and his current role as County Commissioner. Outside of Scouting, Andrew is married to Maggie and has three young children who are just starting to get into Scouting!
Nick | Programme Chief
Nick has been a leader with Scouting for 14 years and held a number of volunteer appointments, including Scout Leader and Assistant District Commissioner (Scouts). Currently as well as being married to Liz, having a young family, a full time job and heading up the programme for BrumJam, Nick is Deputy County Commissioner (Programme) in Birmingham. Nick has been involved, organised and attended a number of International trips, worked alongside our friends in Girlguiding and runs our BrumVenture County Activity Badge Weekend. Nick is committed to lead the Programme Team Leaders for BrumJam 2016 taking care of both the 6 day activity programme and the evening entertainment to make sure we all have a great time on camp. Yvonne Woodhall | Camp Admin Chief
Yvonne has been a leader in Scouting for 18 years and held a number of roles, including being a Group Scout Leader and Deputy District Commissioner. As well as being married to Russell, a full time job and supporting the Organising Team for Brumjam, Yvonne is part of a District team. Yvonne has been involved, organised and attended a number of large scale events and was our Camp Admin Chief in the Bookings for Brumjam 2012 & 2016. Yvonne will be the contact for following up the staged payments and issuing and chasing up the “nominal role” forms so we know who is coming to camp. Based on Yvonne’s previous involvement and feedback we implemented a number of improvements to the booking process. Between the Camp Admin and Finance team these are the most complex and vital (and sometimes unfortunately the most unappreciated) elements leading up to any event however Yvonne is committed to ensure that the Admin process runs as smoothly as possible so we can all get on with having a fun time on camp. Yvonne would like some support on the camp helping with registration, booking in and issuing lanyards and ID etc once the camp starts. Luke has been a leader within Scouting for nearly 6 years. Luke has progressed through Scouting and became a Leader whist studying at University and into a Graduate Job. Luke now jointly runs Kings Heath Explorer Scout Unit and is part of Cole Valley South Network. Luke has been able to attend a multitude of camps both as a participant and as a leader being able to experience camps from both sides. Luke is getting married in early spring 2020 to his FiancéeAmy. Luke is now working with the organising committee to give a youth representation to the team, giving the young people attending the Jamboree a voice in what they would like to see from the camp programme, to the facilities on site. Helen is part of the Blackwell Adventure management team, she has worked at Blackwell Adventure for over 12 years and has been involved with all areas from the start. Helen is from a Scouting background as was one of the first girl Scouts, joining the movement in 1991. Her family have always been in Scouting and she was brought up taking part in trips to places like Poland and Kandersteg, that her parents organised, along with hundreds of other Scouts. Helen and the team at Blackwell have been involved in BrumJam and other large scales events over the years, so will be there to ensure all the participants will have a wonderful experience with lots of fantastic memories that will last a life time.
Paul Goon | International Liaison Chief
Paul has been an adult volunteer with Scouting for 36 years and has held a variety of appointments including District Commissioner and Assistant County Commissioner (Scouts). He is currently a Group Scout Leader and a member of the Scout Grants Committee. Paul has been involved, organised and attended a number of international and large-scale events including being an IST member at World Scout Jamborees. Paul was the International Liaison Chief for Brumjam 2012 and 2016.
Paul’s role at Brumjam 2020 is to help and support with the International visitors before and during the camp and make sure our overseas visitors feel welcome and have a great time at Brumjam 2020. Paul is also responsible for guest hospitality for our special visitors and also manages the one off ceremonies such as the main camp flag break.
Steph has been a Guide leader with Girlguiding for 7 years. In that time she has had many different roles, including: District Commissioner, Leadership mentor, Secretary and Queens Guide Award Coordinator. Steph has been involved in a multitude of international camps, most recently she was a member of the International Service Team for Roverway 2018 in the Netherlands. Steph is a youth advisor for Brumjam 2020 and is most excited to be involved with an international camp of this scale so close to home!
Linda has been a leader in Girlguiding for 50 years and has held many volunteer appointments. These have included being District, Division and County Commissioner and Special Needs Adviser at County, Region and National level. Two very exciting appointments held at Midlands Region have been the Volunteer Lead for Girlguiding’s Centenary and the Programme and Events Manager. Both of these roles involved organising many large scale events. International travel has featured strongly in Linda’s Girlguiding career and she has led trips to India, Mexico, Spain and many trips to Switzerland. Linda has been involved in the planning of 5 joint trips to Kandersteg with Birmingham Scouts and in Brumjam 2016 and was Head of Sub Camps at Brumjam 2012. Currently a Guide and Ranger Leader, Property Manager and Shop Manager for Girlguiding Birmingham and a Scout Group Treasurer.
